Funding

The Forestry Commission can offer funding through a Woodland Improvement Grant. The Grant has been designed to provide financial support in setting up a Forest School. The WIG grant has funded Forest Schools in various situations and location within the East of England.

The Grant has been the catalysts in allowing schools, charities and NGO’s to develop Forest Schools in our region.

This funding will enable a series of Forest Schools to be set up in the East of England through single discretionary capital payments. Grants from this fund will be made to successful applicants on completion of the agreed work. The grant will be determined as a proportion of the costs of the agreed project.

Funding will be used to support the infrastructure for Forest Schools. This could include:

  • Gates
  • Initial Tree Safety Audits
  • Remedial arboriculture
  • On site storage facilities
  • Tools
  • Rope
  • First aid equipment
  • Portaloos
  • Wet weather gear
  • Training
  • Transport
  • Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance
  • Rucksacks
  • Kelly Kettles
  • Penknives
  • Potato peelers
  • Tarpaulin
  • Camouflage netting
  • Gloves
  • Shelter
  • Pooters
  • Spades
  • Nature viewers
