Th Forestry Commission are the Government Department responsible for the protection and expansion of Britain's forests and woodlands.

The Forestry Commission East England have developed a successful Forest School East programme which provides funding for the development of Forest Schools our region.

Forest Education Initiative

Forest Education Initiative. FEI supports the development of local Forest School settings (FEI recognised Forest Schools), by offering local and national expertise and advice from the 8 FEI national partners and access to internal funding as a constituted FEI cluster group.

Regional Woodland Strategy

Woodland For Life, the Regional Woodland Strategy for the East of England, recognises the improtance of woodlands both as immediate settings for schools and as places to visit for outdoor learning. With a vision of, "We want improved opportunities for lifelong learning and skills development for everyone in the East of England", the strategy includes an Action Plan that advocate the specific role of Forest Schools.

The New Economic Foundation

The New Economics Foundation nef is an independent think-and-do tank that inspires and demonstrates real economic well-being. NEF undertook evaluation of Forest Schools. The evidence collected for nef’s evaluation and presented in this report shows that for children taking part there is a link between a range of Forest School activities and six specific, positive outcomes that relate to their self-confidence, self-esteem, team-working abilities, motivation, pride in, and understanding of their surroundings.

Forest Research

Phase 2 of the Forest School evaluation focused on three case study areas in England: Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. The objective was to explore the benefits and impacts of Forest School on children over an extended period of time. The work was undertaken by the New Economics Foundation and Forest Research

The Sustainable Schools area of TeacherNet is designed to support schools on their journey to sustainability, introducing the principles of sustainable development and offering guidance on how to embed these principles into the heart of school life.

The Sustainable Schools strategy aims to encourage schools to take on the broad principles of sustainable development in their everyday work, achieving educational excellence alongside environmental awareness, community participation and global citizenship.

The national framework for Sustainable Schools focuses on social issues as much as environmental and comprises eight sustainability ‘doorways’ which include elements that complement the Forest School ethos:
